We provide design services to architects, owners, and contractors for commercial swimming pool projects throughout the United States. Public or private use, recreation and competition swimming pools at high schools, colleges, waterparks, municipal community pools, resort facilities, hotels and multi-unit residential properties; we have experience in all the above, whether the facility is above grade or in-ground, pools, spas, spray pads, water features and water elements.
In addition to standalone design services we also provide integrated services for design-build and design-bid-build project delivery methods. Our commitment to coordination of design and construction separates us from traditional aquatic design firms.

Programming (Planning) and Conceptual Design
Determining the aquatic program and features desired by the stakeholders is key to the overall success of a project. Competitive, recreational, therapeutic user groups each require specific needs and blending those elements while meeting a defined budget for pools, spas, spray pads and aesthetical water art. Working with K-12, universities, municipalities, hospitalities, developers, contractors and other stakeholders for over 50-years provides us with an understanding of the specific needs of each user group. Our aquatic design, construction and management expertise provides a real understanding of overall project cost, not just “an engineer’s estimate”. Upon conclusion of this phase, solid design concepts and real cost estimates are provided based on the stakeholder’s defined program and equipment desires.
Schematic Design
Now that the preliminary design and concepts have been developed, coordination with the project team is essential is determining architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, civil and life safety needs. Our engineering, construction and service staff have designed, built and managed 1,000s of facilities nationwide and understand the real space needed for pool and related equipment to maximize room for other programmatic areas while maintaining ease of operation for the facility managers and assisting the project design team with the information required to harmonize the design documents.
Design Development
As the project progresses, the aquatic program is clearly defined in this phase. The competitive, recreational and therapeutic features are finalized, and equipment room space is set. Hydraulics and aquatic equipment are finalized to ensure that additional project team collaboration for aquatic items are coordinated. Solid construction estimates based on the current design helps guide the stakeholders to make the most educated decisions going forward into the construction document phase after which design changes to the scope are costliest.
Construction Documents
The details and finalization of aquatic drawings and specifications are submitted and coordinated for bidding and permitting. Plans, sections and details are provided with interfaces to respective design disciplines. With the support of our Construction and Service platforms, ease and ability of constructability and operation of the facility, the design package provides the stakeholders with the most affordable and economical solution. A final construction cost based on the most current material and local labor costs provides no-surprises on bid day.
Permitting
Sealed plans and specifications are provided to the Authorities having jurisdiction in order to receive the appropriate construction permits. Westport Pools’ extensive experience and relationships with the health departments across the country ensure a timely and efficient process to prevent delays in construction timelines.
Bidding
The Design team with support of the construction staff will support the client with any requests for information or substitution and assist contractors. The experience of the Westport team submitting 1000s of aquatic bids provides the design and construction team the assurance in providing the most economical bids.
Construction Administration
The holistic approach to aquatics that Westport Pools provides with design, construction and service ensure that the facility is built not only in accordance with plans and specifications, but also with optimal maintenance and operational plans.
Commissioning / Close Out
